ABOUT ABOUT

Sugar Stems will play The Étude Sessions at Paradigm Coffee and Music on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Paradigm for $15, $10 for students with valid IDs.

Sugar Stems is a Milwaukee-based group that features IDEAS Academy’s own guitarist/vocalist Drew Fredrichsen, along with guitarist/vocalist Betsy Borst, bassist Steph Swinney and drummer Jon Heibler. The group’s bubblegum popping sounds are upbeat with classic pop hooks that explore the personal narratives of life: humour and heartache, anger and love. The group is influenced by artists and sounds such as Dave Edmunds ("Never Been In Love"), Shivvers ("No Substitute"), Chichlids ("Did You Ever"), and Staple Singers ("Slow Train") to name a few. Their latest album, “Only Comes Out at Night” was released in July 2014 and features the song “Million Miles” from HBO’s “Looking” soundtrack.

The Étude Sessions is a concert series benefiting the three schools of Étude Group: I.D.E.A.S. Academy, The Mosaic School and Elementary School of the Arts and Academics (ESAA). Proceeds raised during concerts provide students with learning opportunities that focus on the content and skills necessary to be successful in a world that increasingly values creativity and innovation. This is accomplished by providing students with opportunities to participate in communities beyond the bricks and mortar of the classroom setting.
